Stop iTunes from opening when you insert a CD

I like burning my CDs in a lossy format. I could use Apple’s lossy compression algorithm built into iTunes but I prefer to use FLAC. Unfortunately, iTunes doesn’t do FLAC so I’m forced to use XLD. However, every time I stick a CD into my Mac iTunes opens asking me if I want to burn a disc.

What I want to do is have XLD launch whenever I insert a CD into the Mac. It’s pretty easy to do but it’s not obvious.

To specify your Mac’s behavior when a CD or DVD is inserted you use the System Preferences.

  1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click CDs & DVDs. (If you don’t have an optical drive built into or attached to your Mac, CDs & DVDs preferences aren’t available.)

  2. Use the pop-up menus to choose an action for the type of inserted disc.

Now, when I pop a CD in, my favorite CD ripping application opens.
